HELPFUL TIPS FOR THE NEWLY DIAGNOSED

HELPFUL TIPS FOR THE NEWLY DIAGNOSED

You’ve been recently diagnosed with a new medical disease with which you are unfamiliar.

You’ve seen the specialists but felt a little overwhelmed about the diagnosis.

You forgot to write down your questions; instead, you froze when the doctor came into the room.

Everything was a blur when you left the appointment.

You are the team leader of your latest project at work and don’t have time to attend more doctor appointments than you need to at this point.

You take time out of your work to research your diagnosis and panic about the information.

More time is taken out of your day by calling doctors and insurance agents.

How can you manage this?

1. opt for televisists with your doctor. It’s convenient and will save time (coverage varies depending on insurance)

2. Write down your questions or record your visit

3. Review or journal immediately after your medical appointment

4. Search support groups; there are plenty of other people going through the same experience

5. Organize your medical records, including tests results, to have them handy for future medical appointments

6. Don’t panic! Not everything you read on the internet is true or applies to you

7. If you think all of that is too much to handle, hire a patient advocate to reduce time, frustration, and anxiety.
